Criticism On “America Tunes Out”
February 21st, 2012 . by adminI have always loved the Libertarian argument for legal advice forumizing drugs. People who are responsible for their own actions doing what they want as long as other people are not adversely affected…ok, sounds good. Right now we have the full weight and might of Federal, state and local law enforcement trying to stop illegal drugs, but if drugs were legal then these folks needed to enforce those laws would be unemployed. Rest assured that they would not stay unemployed for long. With drugs being legal, they would in turn have drug commerce regulated like alcohol and tobacco, perhaps. The hordes of DEA-type lawmen would now become enforcement police for the new Drug, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Agency, instead of ATF, it would be DAFT for Drug, Alcohol, Firearms and Tobacco. Also, the taxman would have to be fed. The IRS and all the state and local tax agencies who would make a million draconian tax/use laws concerning the legal drugs would need more and more agents to enforce those laws and regulations. Why the number of folks employed doing all those functions would skyrocket until the cost of legal drugs would be exceedingly more than the cost of the War of Drugs. Instead of hundreds of thousands in prison for drug offenses, they would be in jail for legal drug law/tax offenses. Maybe changing the laws as we know them would not result in the Nirvana that the drug culture and Libertarian promote…..most assuredly, the law of unintended consequences would win the day.
